Enough of celebrity hounding crazies! · Saturday January 6, 2007 by colin newell
Veteran soap star Drake Hogestyn has filed a restraining order against a man who attacked him in his California home.
The actor, who has played John Black on the daytime soap Days of Our Lives for over 20 years, claims Carl Raymond Cheney assaulted him and “physically tried to exorcise the devil from me.”
In court papers, obtained by website TMZ.com, Hogestyn reveals he was relaxing at home with his family when Oregon native Cheney found his way onto his property and charged at the actor’s daughter.
Hogestyn reveals Cheney was carrying a Bible and screaming, “Where is he? I will cast him out!”
The actor adds Cheney was “calling me by my stage name… recalling past storylines, especially the demonic possession of several years past. But more important, he thought I was dead, because the show that aired on Friday 12/29/06 left my character John Black shot and presumed dead.”
Hogestyn spent 10 minutes grappling with Cheney until he and his 25-year-old son Ben were able to restrain him and call the police.
Drake. If you are reading this, come up to Vancouver Island for a nice family weekend away from it all – with my wife and I! We imagine that you must tire of all the crazies down in California.
We can rent a big cabin on the west coast and sit out and watch the sunset over the Pacific while your wife and my wife compare celebrity horror stories.
While we sip single malt scotch and smoke some fat Cuban cigars we can collectively plan the demise of that Stephano Dimera once and for all!

Gas prices in Victoria B.C. Canada · Tuesday January 2, 2007 by colin newell
1.06.9 One dollar and 6 point 9 cents
Brilliant.
Highest price in Canada.
I read a quote read somewhere locally:
“When there is an abundance of supply chasing too few dollars, the price at the pump must go up…”
Now in Victoria, the other rule applies too:
“When there is a shortage of supply chasing too few dollars, the price at the pump must go up…”
So. You see our problem.
In Caracas, Venezuela (My colleague Al was there for 10 days…), the price at the state owned pumps (sourced from state owned refineries… kind of like Petro-Can) was 11 cents…
a gallon.
11 cents a gallon. And the Venezuelan State owned oil companies have been reporting a profit for years.
So. At the gas pumps in Victoria, B.C. Canada, we do not get gassed. We get fcuked.
Plain and simple.
Chug a lug.

Saddam Hussein hung... · Friday December 29, 2006 by colin newell
He is dead.
Not entirely sure this was the right thing to do for the people of Iraq.
The country is mired in civil war and this could spark even more misery.
God have mercy on the people of Iraq.

Shop shop shop shop shop shop shop! · Wednesday December 20, 2006 by colin newell
Ok. Here is the good news. If you like to shop and spend money you don’t got (Apologies for the mis-use of the language…)
Then this is the time of the year for you.
In Victoria, we now have a selection of stores open 24 hours a day.
Now, this is great if you cannot sleep…
But seriously…
Why, on Earth, is Walmart open 24 hours a day?
Walmart. One of North Americas most reviled retailers.
It is bad enough that they are in your neighborhood. But to stay open 24 hours a day?
I read a statistic somewhere that the parking lots at Walmart are signficantly more dangerous than the average street in some of the tougher neighborhoods in the U.S.A.
That is right – your chances of physical or sexual assault are significantly higher in a Walmart parking lot than a back alley in Queens, New York… or East L.A.
Not really that surprising I guess.
It seems that Walmart attracts a criminal element. That is not a surprise.
They exploit and disenfranchise their workers, attract the poor with their promises of lower than low prices and so on.
Sigh.
Soon it will be Christmas where consumers will gorge themselves on consumables – and then line up after their Turkey dinners; at Future Shop, Toys R Us… and Walmart.
To buy more. And more. and more… more.
I will sleep thank you very much. And dream.
Of a World without Walmart. And all night shoppers. and Christmas gone bad. Rabid consumerist bull-shit that has taken over society.
So buy nothing.
Buy it! [1]
